Dear Parents and Students:

Welcome to the Teague Band Program! Summer Band Camp was a lot of fun for both beginning and advanced players.  We are looking forward to next year’s camp which will be starting on June 14 or 21, 2010.  See you there!

Feel free to check out our website, Teagueband.com, where you can find all the information you need about the band.  Band students are hardly ever given papers to bring home.  All information regarding rehearsals, performances, fundraisers, etc. will be posted on the band’s website.  It is absolutely essential that both parents and students check the website daily for update and current information. If you do not have internet access at home, get a friend to check the site for you, stop by the school’s media center or your local library to get the latest information. Throughout the previous years, the directors have learned that most papers simply do not make it home.  I realize that you are still deluged with reading material from the school at the beginning of the year, but PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO VISIT OUR BAND WEBSITE.

For students who may not know… band is an elective and selective course which provides an enjoyable and educational experience for more than 300 students in grades 6 through 8. There are a total of six bands consisting of the following: three Beginning Bands, one Concert, one Symphonic, and one Jazz Band, but no matter which one a student is placed in, cooperation and teamwork is a must.

There is a beginning band meeting, orientation and instrument try-out on August 27.  NEW BAND STUDENTS (those who did not attend Summer Band Camp) - PLEASE DO NOT rent or purchase an instrument of interest prior to Thursday, August 27.   Director approval of ALL instrument selection is required.  Picking an instrument involves a great deal of preparation and consideration, not only of the students’ need, but the band’s needs as well.

I hope it is obvious that band in not for everyone. On the other hand, in many years of teaching, I have encountered very few students who lacked the musical and mental skills necessary to do a competent job in one of our bands, but I have also found dozens who lacked the desire to do what was required of them to succeed. If you have heard the Teague Bands perform, you probably realized you were listening to a very special group of people. The new and incoming students with develop skills and learning experiences that will be useful in any endeavor they pursue. They will also acquire very enjoyable leisure time activity, performing in amateur or semi-professional groups. Membership in band can make a large university seem a little smaller, and a lot friendlier.

Will I be able to do other things, too?

Of course!  Students in the band participate in virtually every other school and after school activities as well.  Many students in band are enrolled in advanced and gifted courses and challenging academic activities.  Teachers and administration at Teague work together to make sure that you will get everything you want out of your middle school experience.

I hope that your membership in the Teague Band will be a rewarding and productive musical experience, and remember, no matter what you hear, band is NEVER full. Have a great year!

Summer Band Camp 2009

Congratulations Altamonte Band Camp 2009!

Summer band students (comprising of incoming 6th grade, 7th, 8th grades and 9th grade high school students learning a second instrument) rehearsed for two and a half weeks for a concert on July 2.  It is amazing how much these students learned over such a short period of time, and how students just coming from beginning band adjust to learning harder music. They did so successfully.  Overall, the bands played very well and the audience responded with thunderous applauses.

Do you have an unused instrument or uniform sitting in your closet? The band is experiencing record numbers of kids this year! This is great!
